Annual Preventive Maintenance
Good Air Tip
The #1 way to prolong the life of your system is to regularly change your furnace filter.
All HVAC systems should be serviced every year by a certified heating and cooling technician.
For furnaces, your service technician should:
- Perform any necessary cleaning, including the burner and heat exchanger.
- Inspect the venting system and verify that it is operating properly.
- Check for leaks, soot, rust, corroded electrical contacts and frayed wires.
For heat pumps and air conditioners, your servicer should:
- Inspect the indoor evaporator coil for cleanliness and clean if necessary.
- Check the system's refrigerant level.
- Check the operation of the compressor and outdoor fan motor.
- Inspect all electrical connections.
- Inspect the furnace or air handler blower assembly for proper operation and cleanliness.
If the heat pump or air conditioning refrigerant level is low, your HVAC technician should perform a proper leak check and either repair the leak or replace the leaking component.
